Mark Ther often mentions that he likes to recall a time he has never experienced, and this interest is reflected in his exhibition at Karpuchina Gallery. The artist, known for his ability to combine various artefacts with original works to create unprecedented scenographic environments, invites visitors on an unusual journey. It begins in the salon with antique artifacts and continues to the basement space of the public men's toilets. During this journey, the viewer finds himself in unexpected situations that force him to reassess the experienced norms. Among the borrowed artworks and antiques that come from his private collection, Ther inserts his own drawings on canvases, working with themes that aim not to shock but to offer a new perspective on well-known but taboo topics.
Mark Ther is a draughtsman, video maker and scenographic installation artist. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he studied under Vladimír Skrepl and Michael Bielický. He has exhibited in prestigious galleries in the Czech Republic, such as the Prague City Gallery, Václav Špála Gallery, Telegraph Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové, as well as in Poland, Croatia, USA, Germany, Austria, Lithuania, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy, Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium and Japan. In 2011 he received the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, which was the last one signed by Václav Havel and awarded in his name. His works are part of the collections of renowned institutions such as the National Gallery in Prague, the Prague City Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové, as well as private collections such as the Robert Runták Collection and many others.
